Cake Pops Fanatic!

So, I've been super crazy with making cake pops recently. Before I had just been staring at pictures of cake pops on Pinterest & thinking, damn, I wish I could make cake pops. So it got me thinking, maybe I should give it a go then? My first go was for one of my close friend's 21st surprise birthday party, my first go was absolutely horrendous, the picture below shows my second batch. It turned out pretty good I have to say :3

White & Milk Chocolate Cake Pops decorated with sprinkles

Another close friend of mine loved the cake pops so much from the party that I thought I'd surprise her on her surprise birthday party with ice cream cake pops ^^

I know, overload of pictures!! But I was secretly really proud of how well the ice cream cake pops turned out :) Anyway, yesterday I celebrated the beautiful news that my cousin and cousin-in-law are having a baby girl and a baby boy next year! So to celebrate this joyous & blessed occasion, I organised a baby shower for them both. It was one of THE most stressful events I've ever done, but it was WELL worth it!! ^^ I'll blog about this soon, but in my xanga blog, so please check it out if you want to see how much fun we had at the baby shower :)

But in the mean time, have a little look at what I made for the baby shower :)

Okay, so what recipe did I use? I chose to use Emma's Easy One Bowl Chocolate Cake, one because it's just SO simple to use, and two, it's chocolate cake, who doesn't love chocolate cake :D? Secondly, I crumbled the cake up into little pieces once it cooled and mixed it with the binding agent. In my case I used the binding agent from Faith's How to Make Cake Pops. But you can always use this recipe too, I literally just found this recipe, and it's basically the same as what I do when I make cake pops, so go check out Lindsey Bell's Red Velvet Ice Cream Cone Cake Pop. It's just that simple ^^! As always I jazzed up the recipe a little bit, but I promise you that the above recipes are superb! :)

Making Normal Cake Pops
1) Make a cake, it can be any recipe from scratch or even a from a store brought cake mix. I recommend Emma's Easy One Bowl Chocolate Cake, just follow her instructions and tadahhh :) Here are the ingredients I used, so a little different from Emma's recipe:

Ingredients:
Unsalted Butter at room temperature (125 g)
Caster Sugar (125 g)
Doves Farm Gluten Free Plain Flour (125g)
Eggs at room temperature (2 eggs)
Bournville's cocoa powder (6 teaspoons)
Baking powder (2 teaspoons)
Cravendale's Whole Milk (2 tablespoons)
Vanilla Extract (1 teaspoon)

Making the Binding Agent
1) Whilst you let the cake cool down, it's time to make the binding agent :) For this I used Faith's How to Make Cake Pops binding agent. Here are the ingredients I used, so a little different from Emma's recipe:

Ingredients:
Icing Sugar (1 cup)
Unsalted Butter at room temperature (3 tablespoons)
Philadelphia Cream Cheese (half of the 200g pot)
Cravendale's Whole Milk (1 tablespoon)

2) All you need to do is place all these ingredients into a bowl and whisk it until there are no more lumps. I prefer to use less icing sugar purely because the chocolate cake was sweet enough already :)
3) So after the cake has cooled, turn it out of the tin and break / crumble the cake up into little pieces into a large mixing bowl.
4) One tablespoon at a time, spoon the binding agent into the crumbled cake, and stir it into the cake with each spoon. You have to judge for yourself when the cake becomes mouldable. To determine this, I tend to, after each spoonful, use my hands and see if I can roll the cake into a little ball, if not, then add a little more of the binding agent until you get the right consistency. DO NOT pour all the binding agent into the crumbled cake, because it WILL be too wet to handle!
5) Roll the cake into balls of any size you want, place them on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and then put it into the fridge for 30 minutes or so. I prefer to put it over night just because it is much easier to use when decorating.

Decoration time!
In my view, THE best part of making cake pops, but also the most faffy part!
1) Prior to decorating, take your cake pop balls from the fridge at least half an hour before you want to decorate, just so the chocolate doesn't break as the balls expands when it returns to room temperature.
2) Take your chocolate, and break it up into small pieces inside the packaging. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl (glass bowls work a treat, but do get very hot, so PLEASE BE CAREFUL) set over a pot of simmering water over the stove.
3) Once melted, turn off the stove and it's time to decorate!

Decorating Normal Cake Pops
For normal cake pops, you need cake pop sticks, I found the cheapest ones were from Lakeland, offering 50 Cake Pops Sticks for £1.99. Also, lots of things to decorate, I went for simple Rainbow Sprinkles, again from Lakeland because I was there, and they were cute xD

Don't forget you need a styrofoam block or a cereal box with small holes in them to stand the cake pops as they dry. Alternatively you can get one from a store like Lakeland, but I thought it was too expensive!

Ingredients:
Chocolate (White / Milk) - A lot of people suggest Candy Melts, but they are expensive & I don't like them that much, cooking chocolate from Tescos works just the same.
Cake Pop Sticks
Styrofoam / Big Cereal Box
Sprinkles

1) Take your cake pop sticks, dip the head of it into the melted chocolate, before placing it into the cake pop.
2) Do that with every cake pop ball, as you complete one, place it into the fridge so you don't have to wait to start dipping. But if you don't, you should place them all into the fridge for a further half an hour. Take the cake pop and dip it into the melted chocolate, if in need of help, Faith has a fantastic tutorial on it :) Faith's How to Make Cake Pops. Also because I absolutely suck at dipping / coating the cake pops with chocolate, so turn out horrendous, like my cake pop babies xD
3) Once you have coated them, place them into a styrofoam block or a box with holes wide enough for the cake pops, and a box high enough for them to remain upright. Whilst the chocolate is still wet on the cake pop, sprinkle your decorations on, then place them into the fridge asap.

Decorating Ice Cream Cake Pops
These are so much more easier to work with, you don't need a styrofoam block to hold them up, it also doesn't matter if you're messy, that's the whole point of an ice cream cake pop!! (N.B: Decorate the cake pops on the morning that you need them, because wafer cones go stale over night, even in the fridge, so decorate them in the morning to avoid staleness!)

Ingredients:
Chocolate (White / Milk)
Sprinkles (for decoration)
Ice Cream Cones

1) Place the cake pop on top of the waffle cone, take the melted chocolate and spoon it onto the cake pop
2) Decorate with sprinkles
3) SIMPLE!

Hehehe I know, cake pop overload!! So since this blog is SO long, i'll withhold from telling you how I made the cake pops for the baby shower until next time okay? Well that's if any of you want me to ... :P  I hope you enjoy this blog & enjoy looking at the pictures :)
