Time for something sweet to wet your appetite! I have tried so many brownie recipes throughout my life and not one has been successful. Well to me it hasn't, usually it turns out super super gloopy, and I think to myself errr ... did I not bake it for long enough? By which point I end up baking it for hours and it still ends up gloopy. So when I came across this recipe (click to see the original recipe) I was actually super excited to make it, and prayed it wouldn't turn out like all the other ones!
But this one was actually one of my most successful bakes yet! I honestly cannot bake very well, every time I bake something for the first time, it either gets severely burnt or ends up super duper sweet xP. These brownies are sweet and chewy, better yet, solid! No glop at all! Success! I made these last night and had to write a post about it because i'm so happy it went so well!! ^_^ Anyway, enough rambling, I bet you're all dying to know how to make these! Well scroll down to see the way I used the recipe.
Oh and just as a side note, most of the recipes I follow are usually from America, so they use different measurements to us, but to make it easier for you guys, I have put my measurements into grams :)
Ingredients
113g of unsalted butter
100g of plain milk chocolate
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt (1/4 teaspoon)
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
127g plain flour
2 tbsp Cadburys Hot Chocolate Powder / Cocoa powder
Baking time
Preheat the oven for 176 Celsius - I know, so precise! I just turned it to around 180 Celsius, but it was hard to tell, since the oven dial at university is completely faded away!
Line a baking tin with baking paper - A lot of recipes actually specify the measurements of what kind of tin to use, but I didn't have an 8 inch square baking pan, so I used a round cake tin instead xD
Take the unsalted butter and plain chocolate and melt it over simmering water. Stir it until it has completely melted - The way I did this was, I took a normal bowl, placed the butter and chocolate in it. Then I filled my wok with water, placing the bowl into the water, and let it melt as the water began to heat up. I have induction hobs in university, so I kept it around 6/7, but if you have a gas cooker, just set it at a medium heat so it doesn't over boil. Be careful to not over fill the wok/ pan with too much water that it spurts out and into the bowl with the butter and chocolate.
Allow the melted butter and chocolate to cool slightly. Whilst it's cooling, place the sugar, salt and vanilla extract into a mixing bowl. Once the melted butter and chocolate has cooled, pour it into the mixing bowl and mix until everything has combined. - I let mine cool until the bowl felt cool enough to touch, as for the mixture, I mixed it until it was completely brown.
Take the 2 eggs and beat it into the mixture individually, beating each egg into the mixture until it has blended in.
Add the flour and cocoa powder, and beat until the mixture is completely smooth. - I know some sugar have sugar lumps, just try your best to press them out, but it doesn't really matter if you have small lumps.
Pour the mixture into the tin you lined the baking paper with, and place it into the oven for around 35 - 45 minutes - It's usually quite difficult to know when something is cooked, so I used a fork and poked the centre of the brownie, and if it came out clean, then it's ready to come out the oven. Don't worry if a few crumbs stick to the fork, but if it's still gloopy, then it needs a little more time, say another 10 minutes or so.
Set on a rack to cool before cutting it into slices and serving it to your hungry friends and family! :P - I would advise to take it out of the tin when setting it to cool, because usually the tin absorbs a lot of heat during baking, and so it will remain really hot, even after it's been out for awhile. But this removal process should be relatively easy if you used baking paper.
The lighting on the first picture from the above is a little funky, I blame the poor kitchen light! The true colours are on the second picture. I hope you enjoy these chewy brownies, it sure was a hit in my flat! :)
Stay safe & keep smiling,
